How do I sign up?
In order to qualify as an Elves At Work tutor you need to have a formal sewing or fashion qualification from a recognised tertiary institution.
Once you have been accepted as a tutor, you will be required to complete our online tutor training which you will be able to cover in a few hours.
Tutoring is conducted at your home or any other suitable venue eg. private studio, nearby school, community hall or church.
Yes, you will be provided with a requirements list in order to be equipped to give a class. Most of the requirements are however already part of any sewists sewing room, such as a domestic sewing machine, domestic overlocker, fabric scissors, basic sewing tools and haberdashery.
If you would like to offer our more advanced Membership classes, you will also need to purchase the EAW Project E-book (R200) and the Eazy Stitch Commercial Pattern Range (R1999).
These can be bought over time as your students progress.
Students are responsible for their projects fabric and haberdashery requirements, except for their first Basic Sewing class in which the tutor will need to provide the fabric. An allowance is given to the tutor by Elves At Work to cover this cost.
There is very little admin that a tutor needs to do. Most of the admin is covered by the Elves At Work office and system including client liaising, payment processing and class bookings. You will just need to prepare and give the actual class.
Of course! You will however not be allowed to teach the Elves At Work sewing program to anybody outside of our network. Tutors are also not allowed to solicit any students referred to them through Elves At Work for their own personal sewing classes or refer them to other sewing training institutions similar to Elves At Work.
Our program is geared for individual private training because this provides a higher quality experience to the student. Teaching one person at a time is much easier than teaching a group of students.
The tutor hourly rate is R112.50. We also pay commission based on certain criteria. Your earnings depends on your availability and how many booked classes you have for the month. The more students there are in your network, the higher your earning potential. Actively marketing your tutoring services in your area is a great way to build your student network.
Tutors are paid monthly via EFT. Earnings are calculated based on the number of classes given per month plus any commission due.
We charge a service fee of 25% on a confirmed booking which is deducted automatically from the amount paid by a booking client.
This fee allows us to operate the Elves At Work platform, managing the client and their bookings and payment processing amongst other things.
No. As a tutor you operate as an independent contractor/service provider.

You will be contacted if your application meets our requirements.
